Starting your teaching career is exciting. It is also, very quickly, overwhelming.
Most early career teachers enter the profession prepared to teach content, build relationships, and make an impact. What they are often less prepared for is everything else—the pace of the day, the volume of decisions, the expectations beyond instruction, and the reality of balancing it all.
That is where many teachers begin to feel stuck.
The Pro-Teacher Project was created to meet you in that space—not at the ideal version of teaching, but in the real one. This is a place for practical support, honest guidance, and resources that reflect what teaching actually looks like in your first few years.
Our Mission
At the Pro-Teacher Project, our mission is to empower early career teachers with the tools, strategies, and perspective they need to not only survive—but grow.
We believe that strong teachers are built over time, through experience, reflection, and support. When teachers are supported, students benefit. When teachers feel confident and capable, classrooms become stronger, more effective learning environments.
This work is grounded in real experience—both from the classroom and from the hiring and mentoring side of the profession. As a former principal and now a teacher educator, I have seen firsthand what helps early career teachers succeed—and what causes them to struggle.
This project is built around closing that gap.

The focus of this site is simple: practical, usable support that fits into the reality of a teacher’s day.
You will find resources designed to help you manage your classroom, plan effectively, and make informed decisions about your career. That includes strategies for building strong classroom routines, approaches to lesson planning that save time without sacrificing quality, and guidance on navigating evaluations, school expectations, and professional growth.
You will also find tools and ideas that address the “hidden side” of teaching—the organizational systems, communication strategies, and time management habits that are rarely taught explicitly but make a significant difference in how manageable your workload feels.

Why the Pro-Teacher Project Exists
Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions—but it is also one of the most demanding, particularly in the first few years.
Many early career teachers do not leave the profession because they lack ability. They leave because they lack support, clarity, or a realistic understanding of what the job requires.
The Pro-Teacher Project exists to change that.
This is a space designed to reduce unnecessary stress, increase confidence, and help you focus on what matters most—your students and your growth as an educator. It is also a place where you can step back, reflect, and recognize that what you are experiencing is not unusual.
It is part of the process.
With over 30 years of experience as a public school teacher and principal, I now work with pre-service teachers at the university level, supporting the next generation of educators. I regularly spend time in PK–12 classrooms observing my students and learning alongside exceptional mentor teachers, which keeps my work grounded in the realities of today’s classrooms.
